![]() | William Buie, Jr. was born to Ferline Buie and the late William H. Buie, Sr. in New York City on January 12, 1964. He received his early education in the New York City public school system, and at a young age William moved to the Washington, DC area where he completed his secondary schooling. He graduated from Ballou Senior High School Washington, DC in 1984. After completing high school William gained access into the electrical field. He received his calling to the gospel ministry in 1979 and accepted the challenge in 1992. |
In 1992, through the help of Reverend Dr. Morris Shearin, Rev. Buie entered Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 1996. In the first year of college Reverend Buie was licensed to preach the gospel under authority of the late Reverend Dr. Pervis “Fireball” Mckenny. In his final year at Shaw University Reverend Buie was ordained to preach the gospel at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina under the leadership of the late Reverend Ervis Allen and was catechized under the leadership of his current Pastor the Rev. Dr. David C. Forbes his current Pastor.
After graduating from Shaw University, Rev. Bui entered Princeton Theological Seminary, where he received the degree Master of Divinity in May 1999. During the process of matriculation at Princeton, Rev. Buie experienced teaching as well as studying in Durham, England at Saint John’s College on Durham University’s campus. Also during this time of study he served at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens under the leadership of Rev. Dr. DeForest Soaries. Part of his responsibilities included the development of a drug ministry, which he designed specifically for that congregation. Furthermore, Rev. Buie served as an instructor at Drew Theological Seminary while at First Baptist Church. Rev Buie has had the benefit of teaching at Washington Baptist Seminary School in Washington DC.
In 2003 Rev. Buie married the former Tamara Wren and to that union they were blessed with a son William H. Buie III also know as Trey. Rev. Buie also has a son residing in Raleigh, NC known as Noah Adams.
Rev. Buie’s leadership potential has afforded him the blessing of serving as the President of the National Baptist Student Union Retreat. He is a member of The National All-American Achievers, All –American Scholastics member, Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and much more.
On December 31, 1991 Rev. Buie began his leadership role as Pastor of the Lee Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, DC. In April of 2008 Rev. Buie came to First Calvary Baptist Church as Co-Pastor, upon the retirement of Rev. Dr. L.L. Hancock in August 2008. Pastor Buie was handpicked to succeed Rev. Hancock as Pastor of the First Calvary Baptist Church.
The most important accomplishment in Rev. Buie’s life is the day he surrended his life to Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Ever since that day God has elevated his every step. Rev. Buie believes that the church is to function as an enzyme, always giving out but never running out of love and resources necessary to assist those who are in need.
